Human Anatomy Program

Students in lab working

Details

CBS

At the heart of all health practice is a deep understanding of the intricacies of the human body: how it is formed, how it moves, and how all of its structures and systems work in synchrony. Such knowledge is essential to educating future medical practitioners.

To support this study, the College of Biological Science (CBS) is fundraising $350,000 to support the Human Anatomy program.

Impact

The study of human anatomy is a building block for understanding the human body. It supports many health-related professions in life sciences research, kinesiology, medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, athletic therapy, chiropractic, dentistry, naturopathy, pathology, firefighting, paramedicine, police work, and education.

Many of our students describe their time in the human anatomy program as a powerful, life-changing experience that forms the foundation for future learning in health sciences. In addition, the current human anatomy program provides outreach and short course training opportunities to >3000 high school, college, nursing students, first responders, and other health care professionals every year.

By supporting the Human Anatomy program, together we will ensure its growth and longevity for decades to come.

Goals

The Human Anatomy program promotes self-directed learning and develops the leadership, problem-solving and communications skills that are so crucial for future health-care practitioners.  Increased support will allow us to expand our capacity to offer CBS’ premier experiential learning activity.

Our goal is to increase the intensity of research and the number of experts trained in the field of human anatomy by raising funds to:

  • Increase teaching capacity for students and the community
  • Support expanding laboratory needs
  • Create innovative learning opportunities
