Bill Laidlaw

Bill Laidlaw
BA '74

Bill Laidlaw is a respected and committed volunteer who has given a tremendous amount of time and talent in service to the University of Guelph, as well as many other organizations in Canada, over the course of his lifetime. His leadership and dedication developed as a student where he took several roles — active student in the College of Arts and Social Science, varsity athlete, member of the Senate, President of the Ski Club, and volunteer in the Registrar’s Office.

After graduating in 1974, Bill has returned to the University time and time again, supporting many different areas. As a former member of the football team, Bill has volunteered with Gryphon Athletics in many capacities — with the Building Potential Campaign, as Chair for the Alumni Stadium 50th anniversary celebration and 1970 varsity football team reunion. He has also championed the annual Football Gala for the past ten years, encouraging sponsorship and participation from the community.

At U of G, Bill has served on the advisory board for the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and the new International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership. He has served on the Strategic Renewal Advisory Committee, University of Guelph Alumni Association, the University of Guelph Senate, Alumni Weekend Organizing Committee, and the Science Complex fundraising campaign. As a philanthropist, Bill has named the Women’s Basketball Team Room, a room in Macdonald Hall honoring his father’s memory and the boardroom at the Pavilion.

Bill is an experienced executive with an extensive background in both business and not for profit association management and has lent his talents by serving countless organizations, including the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, The Empire Club of Canada, Hamilton Health Sciences, Queensway General Hospital, Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation, The Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Public Affairs Association of Canada, John Howard Society of Ontario, and many others.

The University of Guelph is proud to call Bill Laidlaw an alumnus, and forever grateful for his support and leadership.
