Reflecting back on his time at university, Andrew remembers U of G as a great chapter of his life; “full of good times on campus surrounded by plenty of friends.”
He began his education in 1986 in Management Economics. With subjects spanning finance, economics and marketing, Andrew also learned more than what could be taught inside of a classroom; “University taught me patience, hard work, how to balance life, and more importantly, I learned how to learn.”
At the end of three years at U of G, and one credit shy of completing his degree, Andrew went on to work for Metrus Development Inc.- a land development company. Andrew enjoyed this field of work but became interested in creating and building finished products. In 1992, Andrew started his own business venture, Aspen Ridge Homes. “It was a natural progression coming from a background of land development.”
Nearly a decade since he was first a Guelph student, Andrew returned to the University of Guelph, feeling compelled to complete his degree after all the hard work and time he had invested into his education;“it’s like running 99% of a race and not crossing the finish line”. He sees the university experience as an opportunity for educational and personal growth. Andrew graduated with a BA in 2001.
For the past 12 years, Andrew has put that same drive into running a successful business; Aspen Ridge Homes is now one of the top five housing development firms in southern Ontario.
Andrew credits higher education and his time spent at The University of Guelph as contributing to his success.
