Heather Clark graduated from the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing Management in the spring of 2000. Upon graduation, Heather joined the FedEx marketing department, where she held a variety of communication roles in each stage of the customer life cycle. It was at FedEx that Heather launched the inaugural Super Box campaign, an innovation from FedEx that surpassed all projections, including that of the company's return on its investment. Given that success, FedEx wanted more of the same, charging Clark with delivering the Super Box II, Super Box III and Super Box IV.
In 2005, Heather moved to a new role as Associate Director of Creative Strategy at henderson bas and was then promptly promoted to her current role as Creative Strategy Director. FedEx was actually one of henderson bas’s clients, which led to Heather’s recruitment. As an integral part of the management team, Heather is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the company. Heather also heads up the creative strategy team, where she is responsible for developing the digital marketing strategies for clients such as Coca-Cola Ltd., ING Direct, Levi Strauss & Co., Molson Coors Brewing Company and Nintendo of Canada.
Outside of henderson bas, Heather also manages Clark Wedding Design, a wedding service brokerage firm that she founded in 2004. The idea came to her while she was planning her own wedding in 2003, and she quickly acted on it by setting up a large network of wedding vendors in each category. Leveraging her marketing background, Heather advertises on behalf of her vendor partners, and then works with engaged couples to connect them to the vendors that are right for them.
In her spare time, Heather has been a guest speaker at a variety of business conferences put on by the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA), Wilfrid Laurier University and the McMaster University DeGroote School of Business. She has also served as a judge for the CMA RSVP awards in the B2B category and the Radio Marketing Bureau Crystal awards. Outside of work, Heather enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and reading.
In September 2005, Heather's commitment and passion for marketing earned her national recognition by Rogers Media, when she was selected as one of thirteen "Ones to Watch: Marketing's Next Generation", which celebrates the accomplishments of marketing professionals under the age of 30.
Recently, Heather reconnected with the community at the University of Guelph when she welcomed students at the President’s Welcome during Orientation 2006. Heather’s words of wisdom were well-received by the new students.
“As you sit here together, in the middle of your first week of university, be excited about the moments ahead of you, and the experiences that will help to shape who you become. You are at the forefront of your university career, and well on your way to meeting many of the intelligent and inspiring people that contribute to the greatness of Guelph's character. Your experience here will be partly what you make of it, and partly what is made by the friends you meet and the amazing people that surround you. Know to respect their opinions, but debate with them candidly and disagree with them honestly. And remember to be who you are, and say what you think, but work together for a common goal and help one another to achieve it.”
